Let's commemorate Total Defence Day together!

Every year, we commemorate Total Defence Day on 15 February. It was on that date in 1942 when Singapore was surrendered to the Japanese. Thus, Total Defence serves as a reminder that it is every citizen’s responsibility to defend Singapore. This year, the NE Committee is commemorating Total Defence Day on the actual day, 15 Feb. The objective of this commemoration is to remind pupils and ourselves that everyone has a part to play in defending our country.

Overview of Commemoration of Total Defence Day 2011
The theme for the Total Defence 2011 campaign is “Home – Keeping It Together”.
In 2009, Singaporeans were asked “What Will You Defend?”, and then put their thoughts into action with the pledge “I Will” in 2010.
This year, we focus on why we need to defend Singapore: simply because this is our Home, and we will all do our part to keep it together.
Activities
1) 10 Feb (Thu): Briefing on food rationing (plain porridge) (NE before-school programme)
2) 9 Feb (Wed) & 11 Feb (Fri): Screening of NEmation clips in MRL (recess)
3) 15 Feb (Tue): Commemoration of TDD & awareness of the Public Warning System (PWS) during the 1st period & the islandwide sounding of the PWS at 12 noon.
(A) Food rationing exercise on Tuesday, 15 Feb 2011 during recess.
The school will be providing everyone with porridge during recess. Canteen vendors will be asked not to sell food or drinks during recess. Each pupil will receive one coupon to redeem your bowl of porridge.

More details will be given in class.
(B) Islandwide sounding of the Public Warning System (PWS) at 12 noon on 15 Feb

Do remember to tune in to the following link at 12 noon on 15 Feb

http://radio.mediacorp.sg/RadioLive/938Live.aspx

(C) More activities on Total Defence during our Social Studies Lessons You will also be asked to complete a reflection log and to be submitted to Ms Irene Choong by 25 Feb. Ms Choong will then put up the selected reflections on the NE noticeboard. Do make us proud!

I can't wait for Total Defence Day, how about you?

T1W5 Homework & Main learning points + Tips for parents

Everyone in RED!
I wonder what the pair of lions are doing.....hummm.....

Dear pupils,

The topic for this week's journal entry is of course, 'How did you celebrate Chinese New Year?'

Things which we have done this week:
Prepared all the files, books like composition jotter in preparation for more exciting work for the rest of the year.
Learned about the use of connectors like 'and', 'or' and 'but'

A gentle reminder to prepare your hear-me-out for explanation text before school reopens after Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Gong Xi!

Hosea was over the moon during CNY!

CNY celebration in HWS

Lesson extension for parents:

As we celebrate this joyous occasion, share with your share the meaning behind the many Chinese traditions that we practise during Chinese New Year. For example, the meaning behind Reunion Dinner and t
he exchange of mandarin oranges. Why it has to be a pair of oranges, etc. This will enable your child to write a much better piece of journal entry.

Thank you,
Mr Kok
